Data From Various Sources Indicate That Our Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights May Not Be Our Reality- Our Upcoming Twitter Space.
Sexual and reproductive health (SRPH) is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being in all matters relating to the reproductive system (UNFPA, 2022), and individuals need a safe and satisfying sex life that is free of violence, coercion, and discrimination (WHO, 2022).
However, reports from various sources indicate that not all African countries have adopted laws that prohibit Gender-Based Violence. Also, emotional, physical and sexual violence had the highest prevalence rates in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2019 (over 29%, 25%, and 18%) (Muluneh et al., 2020).
Awareness of sexual and reproductive health rights is therefore needed at all levels of the community to reduce these statistics and improve our SRPH.
Join our Twitter space with MarieStopes Nigeria and the Media Health and Rights Initiative of Nigeria tomorrow, the 31st of August, 2022, from 3 - 4 pm.
We will be discussing issues under the SRPH:
- Right to life,
- Right to decide whether or when to have children,
- Right to choose whether or not to marry, to found and plan a family,
- Right to be free from torture and ill-treatment, and
- Right to development.
See you there!
